Or combine holiday festivities with Key West deep sea fishing fun as the island lights up for a partying Christmas and New Year’s season. Clear, sunny skies, water temps in the mid-70s, and many days of perfect fishing weather help saltwater anglers celebrate the season in Key West.

December Fish Species

Schools of Cobia as well as plenty of Sharks gather around the wrecks this time of the year, and these big fish promise some hard fights at the drop of a bait. December bottom fishing is also great for Grouper action. Big schools of ballyhoo are on the move and often bring open-water predators like Mahi-Mahi and Kingfish right into the reef. The annual Sailfish migration is kicking into full swing now, and wolf packs of a half-dozen Sails slashing into bait schools are a common sight.

December Weather Outlook

Air temperatures in the mid- to high-70s, comfortable humidity levels, and very little chance of rain attracts visitors from all over to winter in Key West. Cold fronts can bring a few blustery days, but average winds are only 14mph through the month. It’s a wonderful time for Key West fishing, and a trophy Sailfish is a nice way to welcome in the New Year.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Fish Key West® over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
